Privacy Policy

lyricspin is designed to be as privacy-respecting as possible. We do not require an account, do not store your audio, and do not sell your data. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (see Analytics below). This policy explains what information is used to make the Service work.

When you tap Listen, the app captures a short audio sample (10 seconds, or 20 if you choose a longer listen) from your device microphone. While a song is on screen, it takes another short sample about once a minute to keep the lyrics in time and to follow the album; this stops when you leave the page. Samples pass through our server to AudD (audd.io) for song identification. lyricspin does not store, log, or retain audio recordings. AudD's handling of audio data is governed by their own privacy policy.

Once a song is identified, lyricspin uses the song title, artist name, and album to fetch lyrics and attribution links. This information is sent to:

• ●LRCLib (lrclib.net) — to retrieve synchronized and plain-text lyrics
• ●Genius (genius.com) — to retrieve attribution links and artist thumbnails
• ●MusicBrainz (musicbrainz.org) and the Cover Art Archive — to find the album's tracklist and cover art
• ●YouTube (Google) — to find the song's video, and to play it in the page if you choose “Play it here.” That player is YouTube's own, loaded from youtube-nocookie.com. When you press play, YouTube receives your IP address and what you watch, under Google's privacy policy.

No personal information is included in these requests — only song metadata.

We use Google Analytics to see how lyricspin is used: pages visited, roughly where visitors come from, the kind of device and browser, and events such as a song being identified (including that song's title and artist) or a share button being tapped. Google Analytics sets cookies (see below) that let it recognize a returning browser, but we don't combine this with an account or with your name, and we use it only in aggregate. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.

When a song is identified, lyricspin displays affiliate links to Amazon (vinyl & merchandise). Clicking these links may set cookies on those platforms that allow them to attribute a purchase to lyricspin. We receive a commission if you make a purchase; you pay nothing extra. We do not receive information about your purchases.

lyricspin itself doesn't set cookies. Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies on lyricspin (named _ga and _ga_…) to count visits and recognize returning browsers. Third-party affiliate platforms (Amazon) may set their own cookies when you follow links to their sites, and YouTube may store its own cookies or data once you play a video in the page.

The app also saves a few settings in your browser so it works the way you left it: the microphone you picked, tonight's setlist (cleared at 6 AM the next morning), which hidden easter eggs you've already seen tonight (so they don't repeat), and whether you dismissed the “add to home screen” tip. If you install lyricspin to your home screen, a small offline page is also stored so you see a friendly message instead of an error when there's no connection. These stay on your device and are never sent to us.

If you send feedback, we receive your message, your rating, what you were playing, and your email address if you choose to give it. It's delivered to our inbox through our email provider (Mailgun), used only to read and reply to your note, and never added to a mailing list.

Like most web services, our hosting provider may collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamp). These logs are used for security monitoring and are not linked to any personal identity.

lyricspin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
