Neither. There's no login, no sign-up and nothing to download. lyricspin runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. The first time you tap to listen, your browser asks for microphone permission.

Yes, and it opens full screen like a regular app. On iPhone: open lyricspin.app in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with the up arrow; on newer iPhones it may be behind the ••• button), then tap Add to Home Screen, leave Open as Web App on if you see it, and tap Add. On Android: open it in Chrome and tap Install when lyricspin offers it, or use the ⋮ menu and choose Add to Home screen. Allow the microphone the first time you tap to listen. iPhones sometimes ask again after the app has been closed for a while; that's normal.

Tap the record and lyricspin listens through your mic for about 10 seconds, then sends that short clip to AudD, a music recognition service, to find the match. The answer usually lands a few seconds later. lyricspin doesn't store the clip; it's used only to identify the song.

Once the song is named, lyricspin pulls time-coded lyrics from LRCLib, an open lyrics database, and scrolls them line by line with the music. Synced lyrics show up when they're available; when a track doesn't have them, you get the plain lyrics instead.

Yes. The first alignment can be off by a second or two, so use the sync nudge buttons to shift the lyrics a quarter-second at a time, or tap any line to jump the sync to that exact spot. Once you've corrected it, lyricspin stops auto-adjusting so it won't fight you.

Turn it up a little, bring the device closer to the speaker and try again, ideally on a chorus. After a miss you can also try a longer 20-second sample. Some recordings just aren't in the recognizer's database, especially live versions, remixes and rare pressings. For those, tap "Search by name", type the artist and title, and the lyrics load directly.

Any turntable, any rig: vintage or new, belt or direct drive, a suitcase player or a full stack of separates. There's nothing to wire in. lyricspin listens through your phone or laptop mic, the same way you do, so it works with whatever your speakers are playing.

Yes. When lyricspin recognizes a track from an album, it loads that album's tracklist and follows along: when one song ends, the next song's lyrics come up on their own, hands-free. While it's listening it also takes a short check about once a minute to stay in step with the record. At the end of the tracklist it asks you to flip; tap when the needle's down and it picks the next track up.

All fair game. If your device's mic can hear it, lyricspin can try it: turntable, CD, cassette, radio, the car stereo, the TV, YouTube cast to the TV, or a Bluetooth or party speaker. It was built with vinyl in mind, but it isn't picky.

It can. A sub pushes deep bass into the room that a phone or laptop mic picks up even when it doesn't sound loud, and on bass-heavy songs that can overload the input. lyricspin already trims the deepest rumble from what it captures, but if a track won't match, turn the sub down a notch or move the device toward the main speakers and away from the sub.

Many built-in laptop, webcam and headset mics are tuned for voice calls. They filter out steady music as "background noise" and roll off the high end the recognizer relies on. Try the mic check on the listen screen, switch to a different input if you have one, or use a phone near the speaker.

It matches the exact recording, so a rare pressing, a bootleg or a live take may not be in there even when the studio version is. Lyrics come from LRCLib, which covers well-known recordings better than deep cuts.

No karaoke version? Sing the real one. That's the gap lyricspin was built to fill. Home karaoke usually limits you to songs that have a karaoke edit. lyricspin syncs lyrics to the original recording, so any song you can play, from a record, the TV or any speaker, is singable.

Yes, as long as the device can hear the music over the room. Keep the phone or tablet near the party speaker rather than out in the crowd, and tap to listen once a song is going. Loud talking right next to the mic is the main thing that gets in the way.
