LP-05 · The chapter house

  • Big TV
  • Whole house on the chorus
  • No karaoke version

Play the song. Big TV. Whole house on the chorus.

Put the real song on the speakers, put lyricspin on the biggest TV in the house, and let the whole chapter sing over the top of the singer. It names the song, scrolls the words in sync, and flashes "Everybody!" right before every chorus.

Brotherhood night, a mixer, game-day pregame or the last song of the night: no mic, no karaoke version, no one stuck running a laptop. Free, no login, nothing to install.

Side A · 01 — Run the night

How to run it.

  1. Biggest screen in the house

A laptop on HDMI is easiest. From a phone, mirror the screen (Screen Mirroring on iPhone, Screen Cast or Smart View on Android; steps in Setup tips). Then hit Big type so the back of the room can read it.

  2. Wait for "Everybody!"

lyricspin spots the chorus and flashes a callout a couple of seconds before it hits: Everybody, then Louder, then One more time. That's the cue for the whole house.

  3. Save Closing Time for last

Build the night up to the big ones, end on the one everybody knows, and share tonight's setlist with the group chat when it's over.

The night

Side A · 03 — Questions

Before you pass the mic.

How do we run karaoke at a fraternity or chapter night?
Play the real song from any speaker, open lyricspin.app on a laptop or tablet hooked to the TV, and tap Listen. It names the song, scrolls the lyrics in sync and calls out every chorus, so the whole room sings over the top of the singer. No mic, karaoke versions, accounts or installs needed.
What are good songs for a fraternity singalong?
Songs with a chorus the whole room already knows: Mr. Brightside, Livin' on a Prayer, Sweet Caroline, Take Me Home, Country Roads, Wagon Wheel, Piano Man, Friends in Low Places, Don't Stop Believin' and Closing Time. The setlist on this page is a good start.
Will it hear the song over a loud room?
Usually. lyricspin listens through the microphone, so keep the laptop or phone close to a speaker. Once it has the song, it keeps the words in time on its own, even when the room gets loud.
Can everyone follow along on their own phone?
Yes. It's a web page, so anyone can open lyricspin.app and tap Listen. There's nothing to install and no account to make.
